Blogger works differently on my ipad, iphone and laptop! and I can't seem to format things properly on any of them. But you get the idea.
July 3rd, Day 13, we left Whitehall, went thru the last Champlain lock, and started up the lake, stopping at Orwell, VT to meet up with our friends, Ginny and Gene, with whom we traveled for many weeks a few years ago. Chipman Point Marina is the home Marina for their boat "Free to B". It's wonderful to see them again, and meet new friends as well. -- joining a rendevoux Ginny had planned with friends some time ago and for us the timing was perfect
Chipman Point Marina is somewhere in time, but not in the 21st century, and it's simply wonderful. There are two 1810+- buildings which were merchandise warehouses when Lake Champlain was part of a busy trading route. The marina atmosphere, decor, "rules" etc are all casual, friendly, honor system, neighborly, respectful, we felt instantly at ease and could have stayed much longer.
These historic buildings are wonderful |
A cloudy day. The boat we are looking at is the new "Free to Be" which belongs to our friends Gene and Ginny Browning |

beautiful Vermont countryside at Orwell, Vermont
We celebrated the holiday on Saturday the 5th with a great pot luck barbecue and a fantastic
Fireworks display -- we had front and center seats at the end of the dock on Free-to-B.
A memorable Vermont Fourth of July weekend.
Lovely Lake Champlain
